An aggressive rabbit can be a big problem. There are two main reasons your rabbit can be acting aggressive towards you:
*Food Aggression
*Self Defense

Food Aggression

Rabbits are aggressive for their food very often. The reason is that in the wild, rabbits must compete for their food. If your rabbit bites you when your feeding it, you have a food aggressive rabbit.

They bite at you because they think you are trying to steal their food. Their actions are to protect their food. They are operating on an idea of scarcity.

Taming the Aggressive Rabbit - Rabbit Care and Training

This can happen if you place the food in the same spot every time you feed your rabbit. A solution to this is to mix up the location of the food. Place it in different spots. This will discourage your rabbit from viewing the food bowl as its territory.

Also, you need to let your rabbit know that you are giving it the food. Establish the connection between food and your hand. To do this, place food in your hand and hand feed your rabbit. Read the rest of this entry »

Maintain a healthy environment

In order to maintain a truly healthy environment for your rabbit, and yourself too, your entire hutch and/or cage needs to be cleaned thoroughly. The bedding should also be cleaned very thoroughly. This should be done weekly, or at the latest, bi-weekly. You can find cage wiring and accessories with warm to hot water and some mild soap. Make sure you do not bleach it because this could be dangerous for the pet.

After cleaning make sure everything is rinsed, and make sure all the soap residue is washed away. Leaving any of the residues behind can cause health dangers to your beloved rabbit, which you love, and is the reason behind you cleaning the hutch in the first place. Remember that just because you are cleaning it, doesn’t mean that your rabbit will react in the same way another person or animal may react to the cleaning supplies. Thinking this can lead to possible sickness or even in some circumstances the death of your pet rabbit. Read the rest of this entry »

Rabbits Find Lost Roman Villas

I recently visited a restored Roman Villa at Chedsworth, England in the Cotswold hills. They had some very beautiful mosaic floors on show, which were still largely intact, within the villa’s restored bath houses and dining rooms. These mosaic panels, dating back from between the 2nd and 4th centuries AD, were of great interest to me. The villa itself was  made up of a rather large group of adjoining rooms, laid out in an extended three sided horseshoe shape. I was amazed at the size of this ancient farm or ranch, and the extent of its facilities , which included a running water toilet suite, with seating for several individuals and two extensive and opulent bath houses. The villa also boasted a private temple or chapel, with a pool fed by a spring. The temple was dedicated to the local water goddess. Less well preserved, were the remains of extensive colonnades for elegant porticos that once ran along the sides of the building. However the crowning glory was the indubitably the spacious dining hall, with its beautiful mosaic floor, which had the added luxury of under floor heating. To me, the overwhelming  impression was that this villa seemed to be more of a comfortable holiday resort, designed for leisure, rather than a working farm. Read the rest of this entry »

That’s why it’s a great idea to consider rabbit pet insurance.

Rabbits, domestic or wild, are not designed to become pets for humans. After working in the animal charity sector for several years, I came across many cases of rabbits living in appalling conditions and leading a miserable life. The truth is that many people do see rabbits as an easy option when it comes to choosing a pet. They believe that leaving the rabbit in a confined space for most of the day then handling them occasionally is all you need. This could not be further from the truth. Read the rest of this entry »

What Do Baby Rabbits Eat?

If you have a baby rabbit that doesn’t have access to its mother, you might be wondering “What do baby rabbits eat?”. This is a good question to ask, because the bunny digestive system can be very delicate at first.

Rabbits milk is the most caloric of any mammals milk and can be difficult to replicate. The best replacement milk you can find is Kitten Milk Replacer (KMR) which can be bought at pet stores, and some times even your local supermarket. Even so, this milk is not as caloric as the rabbit needs, so a good idea is to add a tablespoon of cream to each can. This will mix well and raise the caloric content to a level that baby rabbits need.

You should only be feeding baby bunnies twice a day. I suggest using an eye dropper or oral syringe. Oral syringe works best because you can measure how much you’re giving them. You can find these at any pharmacy. Read the rest of this entry »

If you’re thinking about adopting a rabbit and are wondering what do rabbits eat, then this article is for you. Lots of people take on the responsibility of owning a rabbit but don’t actually know what it takes to make sure that they’re healthy and happy. This can lead to illness and even premature death. That’s why it’s important to be as educated as you can be about what to feed your new pet.

Rabbits are vegetarians and love all things that are green, but perhaps the most important food source you can provide is hay. Not only does hay contain all the nutrients a rabbit needs to stay healthy, it also provides other benefits like keeping a bunny busy. Unfortunately these cute little critters love to chew, and will chew on just about anything you put in front of them (unless you train them not to). Hay gives them something to keep there mouths full of things that is safe for them and makes you a much happier owner. Read the rest of this entry »
