I have to admit I’ve never owned a cat that could use the commode/toilet, however, I have heard many stories of cats that have. From what I understand not every cat becomes potty-trained as easily as some, you can find books that are devoted to teaching your cat to use the toilet and you can buy commercial kits to make the training easier. These kits consist of a plastic form that fits between the toilet seat and porcelain rim, inside the form is a compartment for litter that contain holes that allow the urine to drain through. It might help to get a packet of catnip to make the litter more attractive to the cat. Read the rest of this entry »

If your kitty is subject to recurring urinary tract infections, you may be considering exploring homeopathic care for your cat – but aren’t sure if it’s a better option than the standard care with which you’re familiar.

So What Is Homeopathic Care For Cats?

Homeopathic, or holistic, medicine is an alternative way of viewing illness. While conventional pharmaceuticals treat the symptoms of cat urinary problems, they neglect to address the reasons your pet is having them to begin with. Unlike standard vet care, homeopathic practitioners look at the cat as a complete system, not as just a urinary tract. Holistic pet care operates on the principle that your cat’s body is intended to maintain a balance that protects her from illness, helping her to cure herself. If an imbalance occurs, your cat gets sick. The holistic approach is employed in an effort to restore the lost balance. Read the rest of this entry »

Cats love to play. If you own one you have probably seen him bouncing around your furniture or running helter-skelter through the house. This is the reason you should have a cat gym. A gym will give your pet a place to get rid of all his excess energy and mayhem.

A cat gym should provide a lot of different elements for your loving companion. There probably should be some sort of house or perch for your feline to sleep in after he has tired himself out from his workout. A good gym will have a few scratching areas for your pet placed at the most strategic spots on your gym. Your gym should also have a few limbs branching off in different directions. This will give your pet a variety of places to climb instead of just one limb. Read the rest of this entry »

Feline urinary tract infections are on the rise. They can be treated, but better yet, they can be prevented. One of the commonest reasons for Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease (FLUTD) is what your cat eats. Good quality cat food for urinary health certainly exists, but does the food you buy your kitty now provide that? Read the rest of this entry »

If you’ve ever owned both a cat and a dog, you are probably aware that the ease of training a cat differs a great deal from training a dog. Cat urinary issues are always a cause for concern. There are a number of urinary issues that can affect your cat. They include bacterial infections, bladder stones, urinary incontinence, bladder thickening, urinary tract obstruction, bladder cancer, and kidney failure. Almost all of these problems, when left untreated, could worsen your cat’s health and can be fatal at times.

If you can detect a cat urinary issue at the early stage, you can avoid a lot of problems. To be able to do that, you should be aware of the symptoms of urinary problems in cats. The common signs include difficulty in urination, blood in the urine and feces, litter box accidents, loss of appetite, weight loss, vomiting, and lethargy. If your cat shows any of these symptoms, the first thing you need to do is take it to your vet and get it checked completely.

The vet, depending on the cause of the problem, will suggest an appropriate treatment. The important thing you need to remember is that most of the times, cat urinary issues can be treated with the help of natural remedies and dietary modifications. So, you should give your cat antibiotic drugs or steroids only if the vet says there is no other choice. Since prescription medications involve significant side effects, it is advisable to use them as the last resort.

The good news is that it is possible to prevent cat urinary issues to a great extent if you make a few changes in your cat’s diet and give it a regular dose of dietary supplements. Instead of giving dry pet food, go for high quality canned food which contains a lot of moisture. Give your cat lots of raw, unprocessed meat which is ideal for its health. Also, make sure it drinks lots of water and stays hydrated all the time. You should keep your cat’s litter box clean. Cats are known for their sense of personal hygiene and they tend to avoid using their litter box if it is dirty.

Giving your cat a regular dose of homeopathic supplements which contain cantharis, berberis vulg, and staphysagris is a good idea. It can strengthen your cat’s urogenital system, prevent bacterial infections, and increase its disease resistance capacity. This is one of the best ways to prevent any cat urinary issue. Since these remedies contain only natural ingredients, they are completely safe for your cat’s health. However, if you have any doubts, you can always consult your vet and get his opinion before you start giving these supplements.

Cat urinary issues, like I already mentioned, can be treated and prevented easily. So, keep these tips in mind and take good care of your cat.
